{"id":3019,"date":"2019-10-28T16:29:28","date_gmt":"2019-10-28T16:29:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=3019"},"modified":"2019-10-28T16:29:28","modified_gmt":"2019-10-28T16:29:28","slug":"richard-misek-to-premier-virtual-reality-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2019\/10\/28\/richard-misek-to-premier-virtual-reality-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Richard Misek to premier virtual-reality project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A virtual-reality (VR) research project developed by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/misek.html\">Dr Richard Misek<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in Film, alongside artist <a href=\"http:\/\/oscarraby.net\/\">Oscar Raby<\/a> and filmmaker <a href=\"https:\/\/charlie.film\/\">Charlie Lyne<\/a>, will have its world\u00a0premiere and be in competition\u00a0at the International Documentary Festival of Amsterdam (IDFA) next month.<\/p>\n<p>The project is entitled <em>A Machine for Viewing,<\/em> and was funded by an <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrc.ukri.org\/research\/fundedthemesandprogrammes\/themes\/digitaltransformations\/\">AHRC Digital Transformations grant<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The project comprises a unique three-episode hybrid of real-time VR experience, live performance, and video essay in which the three moving-image makers explore how we now watch films by putting various \u2018machines for viewing\u2019 including cinema and virtual reality face-to-face.<\/p>\n<p>Across three interlinked episodes (total runtime approx. 20-25 minutes), Richard, Oscar and Charlie turn a physical cinema space and a headset-based virtual cinema into a playground for a series of adventures in vision. Audience members participate either as a user interacting within the \u2018VR cinema\u2019 or as spectators in the physical cinema, experiencing the live narration and watching the activity in the VR cinema on the big screen.<\/p>\n<p>IDFA will be held from 20 November to 1 December 2019.
