{"id":2868,"date":"2019-09-30T14:16:48","date_gmt":"2019-09-30T13:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=2868"},"modified":"2019-09-30T14:16:48","modified_gmt":"2019-09-30T13:16:48","slug":"kaitlyn-regehr-features-on-today-in-focus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2019\/09\/30\/kaitlyn-regehr-features-on-today-in-focus\/","title":{"rendered":"Kaitlyn Regehr features on Today in Focus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/regehr.html\">Dr Kaitlyn Regehr<\/a>, Lecturer in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/media.html\">Media Studies<\/a>, has just presented in a feature item of the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/news\/series\/todayinfocus\">Today in Focus<\/a><\/em> podcast discussing the new UK guidelines for sex education <span style=\"color: black\">and her research with Professor Jessica Ringrose (UCL)<\/span>, released today Monday 30 September 2019.<\/p>\n<p><em>Today in Focus<\/em> is the daily podcast from <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/uk\">The Guardian<\/a><\/em> newspaper, hosted by Anushka Asthana, exploring the day\u2019s key stories.<\/p>\n<p>The UK sex education guidelines have been updated for the first time in nearly two decades, with the new lessons starting this term, and Kaitlyn discusses the impact of the digital world on sex awareness of young people.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018In a lot of ways these new guidelines remain out of step with young people,\u2019 explains Kaitlyn in the podcast. \u2018These guidelines don\u2019t think about the complex issues at stake with regards to pornography, with regards to \u2018sugaring\u2019 \u2013 that is, young people exchanging relationships for money and gifts \u2013 with regards to digital image exchange, with regards to consent.
