{"id":2764,"date":"2019-08-21T11:10:29","date_gmt":"2019-08-21T10:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=2764"},"modified":"2019-08-23T17:18:58","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23T16:18:58","slug":"edinburgh-fringe-review-roundup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2019\/08\/21\/edinburgh-fringe-review-roundup\/","title":{"rendered":"Edinburgh Fringe review roundup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As the Edinburgh Festival continues, we\u2019re thrilled to announce that our own graduates have received first-class reviews from the press for their performances.<\/p>\n<p>Jimmy McGhie, who graduated with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/114\/drama-and-theatre\">BA (Hons) in Drama<\/a> in 2002, performed his 9<sup>th<\/sup> show at the Fringe, called \u2013 appropriately enough \u2013 <em>Jimmy McGhie BA (Hons)<\/em> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freefestival.co.uk\/Venue.aspx?VenueID=176\">Pear Tree<\/a>. <em>The Scotsman<\/em> newspaper included his show in its \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.scotsman.com\/arts-and-culture\/edinburgh-festivals\/edinburgh-fringe-2019-the-scotsman-critics-best-comedy-shows-to-see-this-year-1-4982354\">Best Comedy Shows to See This Year<\/a>\u2019 feature.<\/p>\n<p>Laura Lexx, who graduated with an MDrama in 2009, has been performing\u00a0 <em>Knee Jerk<\/em> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/wp-admin\/Gilded%20Balloon%20Teviot%20(Turret)\">Gilded Balloon<\/a><em>. <\/em>The <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.edfestmag.com\/\">Edinburgh Festival Magazine<\/a><\/em> rated her show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.edfestmag.com\/comedy\/laura-lexx-comedy-review\/\">a maximum 5 out of 5 stars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Houghton, who graduated with an MDrama in 2008, has been performing <em>That\u2019s What I Go To School For<\/em> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pleasance.co.uk\/edinburgh-spaces\">Pleasance Jack Dome<\/a>, was rated 5 out of 5 stars by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/HonourableTom\/status\/1163103720642682882?s=20\"><em>The Sunday Express<\/em> newspaper<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Noise Next Door, a collective consisting of Kent graduates, have been performing their Comedy Lock-In at the Pleasance Courtyard, with was <a href=\"https:\/\/theweereview.com\/review\/the-noise-next-doors-comedy-lock-in\/\">awarded another 5 out of 5 stars<\/a> by the Wee Review. The collective have also been performing <em>The Noise Next Door\u2019s Really Really Good Afternoon Show Through Time!<\/em>,\u00a0also at the Gilded Balloon, which <a href=\"http:\/\/one4review.co.uk\/2019\/08\/the-noise-next-doors-really-really-good-afternoon-show-through-time-4\/\">One4Review rated a satisfying four out of five stars<\/a>. The Noise Next Door comprise the following: Sam Pacelli, who graduated with an MDrama in 2008; Tom Livingstone, also graduated with an MDrama, 2008; Matt Grant, who graduated with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/undergraduate\/99\/film\">BA (Hons) in Film<\/a> in 2008; and Robin Hatcher, who graduated with an MDrama in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, Tom Parry, who graduated with a BA (Hons) in Drama and English and American Literature in 2003, performed his show <em>Parryoke!<\/em> at the Pleasance Courtyard.
