{"id":2108,"date":"2019-03-01T17:06:40","date_gmt":"2019-03-01T17:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=2108"},"modified":"2019-10-03T11:02:16","modified_gmt":"2019-10-03T10:02:16","slug":"alumna-td-moyo-premieres-play-at-the-lyric-hammersmith","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2019\/03\/01\/alumna-td-moyo-premieres-play-at-the-lyric-hammersmith\/","title":{"rendered":"Alumna TD Moyo premieres play at the Lyric Hammersmith"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Drama and Theatre alumna Tendai Dombojena Moyo has authored a play, <em>Feels<\/em>, which will premiere at the <a href=\"https:\/\/lyric.co.uk\/\">Lyric Hammersmith<\/a>, London, beginning 11 March 2019, as part of the theatre\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/lyric.co.uk\/shows\/evolution-festival-2019\/\">Evolution Festival<\/a> to showcase emerging artists.<\/p>\n<p><em>Feels<\/em> explores the experiences, feelings, and dreams of five black men who find themselves in a crazed pursuit of memory and the desire to attain, attain something &#8211; anything.<\/p>\n<p>Tendai was interviewed alongside actor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtisbrown.co.uk\/client\/cornell-john\">Cornell S. John<\/a> for a podcast about representing black men in the media and on stage, which is hosted on the Lyric\u2019s website. \u2018<em>Feels<\/em> is a construction of dreams and feelings,\u2019 she explains in the podcast. \u2018These men are all men that I feel that I\u2019ve met.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Tendai is a writer, director and activist. She graduated from Kent with a BA (Hons) in Drama and English and American Literature in 2016 and an MA in Contemporary Performance Practice in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on her time at Kent, Tendai said: \u2018My academic study and time at the University of Kent provoked me into a world where creating and showcasing great stories became a viable career choice. I was taught the value of independent thought and emerging work, which is what a professional career in the industry is truly about.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Over the course of my study I was challenged and inspired to write and create stories which were contemporary, representative and fun &#8211; particularly for audiences comprised of people who look like me or can relate to where I am coming from.
