{"id":1758,"date":"2018-11-15T15:38:24","date_gmt":"2018-11-15T15:38:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=1758"},"modified":"2018-11-15T15:38:24","modified_gmt":"2018-11-15T15:38:24","slug":"free-cinema-screening-he-named-me-malala","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2018\/11\/15\/free-cinema-screening-he-named-me-malala\/","title":{"rendered":"Free cinema screening: He Named Me Malala"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/postgraduate\/96\/curating\">MA in Curating<\/a>, in conjunction with the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/studio3gallery\/about\/\">Studio 3 Gallery<\/a>, have organised a free cinema screening of <em>He Named Me Malala<\/em> (2014) at the <a href=\"https:\/\/thegulbenkian.co.uk\/\">Gulbenkian cinema<\/a> next week, on Thursday 22 November 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary tells the story of Malala Yousafzai, who was wounded when Taliban gunmen opened fire on her and her friends&#8217; school bus in Pakistan&#8217;s Swat Valley.<\/p>\n<p>The then 15-year-old teenager, who had been targeted for speaking out on behalf of girls\u2019 education in her region of Swat Valley in Pakistan, was shot in the head, sparking international media outrage.
