{"id":1692,"date":"2018-10-10T19:02:31","date_gmt":"2018-10-10T18:02:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=1692"},"modified":"2018-11-22T18:43:44","modified_gmt":"2018-11-22T18:43:44","slug":"oliver-double-on-front-row","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2018\/10\/10\/oliver-double-on-front-row\/","title":{"rendered":"Oliver Double on Front Row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/double.html\">Dr Oliver Double<\/a>, Reader in Drama in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/index.html\">School of Arts<\/a> and Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/research\/centres\/popularcomicperformance\/index.html\">Centre for Popular and Comic Performance<\/a>, featured on BBC Radio 4\u2019s <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/programmes\/b006qsq5\">Front Row<\/a><\/em> last week, to attempt to answer why is the unfortunate mishap hilarious &#8211; so long as someone else is falling off the ladder?<\/p>\n<p><em>Front Row<\/em> is a magazine programme discussing the worlds of arts, literature, film, media and music.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018One of the oldest theories of why we laugh is that we laugh at the expense of somebody else,\u2019 explains Olly, who features 2 minutes into the programme, \u2018we can trace this back to Aristotle, who said \u201ccomedy is an imitation of men worse than average\u201d.
