{"id":1681,"date":"2018-10-08T16:37:13","date_gmt":"2018-10-08T15:37:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/?p=1681"},"modified":"2019-05-22T14:17:20","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T13:17:20","slug":"tom-henry-delivers-think-kent-lecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/arts-news\/2018\/10\/08\/tom-henry-delivers-think-kent-lecture\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Henry delivers Think Kent lecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/people\/academic-staff\/henry.html\">Tom Henry<\/a>, Professor of History of Art in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/arts\/index.html\">School of Arts<\/a> and Director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/rome\/\">Rome School of Classical and Renaissance Studies<\/a>, has delivered an online lecture for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/playlist?list=PL_voamVqJ_ZyVoZdGh4ov5u1PseEJxwEX\">Think Kent<\/a> series entitled \u2018Men in Black: How to Interpret Raphael&#8217;s <em>Self-Portrait with a Friend<\/em> in the Louvre\u2019, which is now available on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/\">YouTube<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Think Kent lectures are a series of TED talk-style lectures produced with the intention of raising awareness of the research and teaching expertise of Kent academics and the international impact of their work.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture follows on from Tom\u2019s curation of an exhibition held at both the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.louvre.fr\/en\/\">Louvre<\/a> in Paris and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.museodelprado.es\/en\">Museo del Prado<\/a> in Madrid, entitled \u2018<em>Rapha\u00ebl \u00e0 Rome: les derni\u00e8res ann\u00e9es<\/em>\u2019, focusing on the final years of the renaissance painter and architect.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture discussed one painting, Raphael\u2019s <em>Self-Portrait with a Friend<\/em> (<em>c<\/em>.1519-20), completed shortly before the artist\u2019s death in 1520.
