Dr Lavinia Brydon serves as Co-Investigator on AHRC Connected Communities project

The People’s Pier: The popular culture of pleasure piers and cultural regeneration through community heritage

The People’s Pier is a research project that investigates community piers as an emerging form of community hubs. Using the case studies of Clevedon and Hastings, the  project will explore how the popular culture heritage of seaside piers can be used to the benefit of the community. Led by Dr Olu Jenzen (University of Brighton), and along with co-investigators Dr Nicholas Nourse (University of Bristol), Dr Matt Brennan (University of Edinburgh), and Archie Lauchlan (University of Brighton), Lavinia will be conducting research pertaining to the piers’ visual history and their potential use as screening spaces.
