{"id":80,"date":"2020-12-15T09:34:34","date_gmt":"2020-12-15T09:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/artistry\/?p=80"},"modified":"2020-12-15T09:34:34","modified_gmt":"2020-12-15T09:34:34","slug":"drawing-like-a-cubist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/artistry\/2020\/12\/15\/drawing-like-a-cubist\/","title":{"rendered":"Drawing like a Cubist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Earlier this year, before the first lockdown, the students taking the History of Art module <em>Drawing: History and Practice<\/em> were lucky enough to see the marvellous Royal Academy exhibition <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.royalacademy.org.uk\/exhibition\/picasso-and-paper\">Picasso and Paper<\/a><\/em>. One of the drawings on display &#8211; a study of a <em>Seated Man<\/em> from 1915 in the Marina Picasso collection \u2013 then became the template for one of for their own drawing exercises. Picasso had drawn faintly in pencil the outline of a seated man, before then going over it in ink in a facetted cubist style, suggesting a formula for deriving cubist forms from realistic observations.
