{"id":570,"date":"2022-02-14T16:33:31","date_gmt":"2022-02-14T16:33:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/artistry\/?p=570"},"modified":"2022-02-14T16:33:31","modified_gmt":"2022-02-14T16:33:31","slug":"new-acquisition-for-the-kent-print-collection","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/artistry\/2022\/02\/14\/new-acquisition-for-the-kent-print-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"New acquisition for the Kent Print Collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-569\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/artistry\/files\/2022\/02\/Crying-Game-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2872\" height=\"2414\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The latest acquisition made by Kent students for the Kent Print Collection is the Dutch artist Marcelle Hanselaar\u2019s 2015 etching <em>Broken promises, trafficked women<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-568\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/artistry\/files\/2022\/02\/Crying-Game-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2992\" height=\"2992\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This print is part of her superb series <em>The Crying Game<\/em> which takes its cue from two previous sets of etchings that document violent crimes and inhumanity: Otto Dix\u2019s <em>Der Krieg<\/em> of 1923-24 and Francisco Goyas <em>Los Desastres de la Guerra<\/em> of 1810-20. Hanselaar has spoken of her need to bear witness to recent horrors, in particular violence against women, and that \u2018etching with its harsh bitten lines offset by the poetry of aquatint is the perfect medium\u2019 in which to do so.
