Postgraduate students from the Curating MA at the School of Arts have launched a virtual exhibition entitled Once upon a time, and Now!<\/em>.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was due to take place in the School\u2019s Studio 3 Gallery<\/a> but has moved online due to COVID-19. It can be viewed here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Through the exhibition, curators Diletta D\u2019Antoni, In\u00eas Mourato and Junwei Chen invite viewers to rediscover the history of women through the influence of the goddess Isis, an Ancient Egyptian deity.<\/p>\n

Featured artists include Nancy Spero<\/a>,\u00a0David Deweerdt<\/a>,\u00a0Nooji Studio<\/a>,\u00a0Alaa Awad<\/a>,\u00a0James Putnam<\/a>,\u00a0Ana Maria Pacheco<\/a>,\u00a0Silvia Paci<\/a>,\u00a0Claudia Niarni<\/a>, Bin Luo,\u00a0Nicole Wassall<\/a>,\u00a0Almagul Menlibayeva<\/a>, Bin Zhao, Lu Han, Crisia Constantine and\u00a0Mary Kelly<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In\u00eas Mourato said: \u2018Isis was an omniscient deity endowed with magical powers. Her supremacy over all the gods reflected the recognised status of Egyptian women. \u201cWiser than a million gods\u201d, Isis had a complete knowledge of the heavens and the earth. Yet she also incorporated human qualities \u2013 a natural balance of good and evil \u2013 that ordinary women could relate to. This exhibition combines and juxtaposes different historical cultures and beliefs in order to rethink women\u2019s liberation by listening to their glories and sufferings throughout history.\u2019<\/p>\n
