{"id":341,"date":"2020-04-29T11:15:21","date_gmt":"2020-04-29T10:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/datascience\/?p=341"},"modified":"2020-04-30T12:25:14","modified_gmt":"2020-04-30T11:25:14","slug":"papers-accepted-at-embc-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/aida\/2020\/04\/29\/papers-accepted-at-embc-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Papers accepted at EMBC 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Five papers from Data Science group members have been accepted for oral presentation at EMBC 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/rpg\/kp356\/\">Kostantinos Patlatzoglou<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/rpg\/yl339\/\">Yuzhou Lin<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/rpg\/ldp7\/\">Lam Pham<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/rpg\/lw476\/\">Liqun Wu<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/rpg\/ra545\/\">Robin Ayling<\/a> who had their papers accepted at the 42nd Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (<a href=\"https:\/\/embc.embs.org\/2020\/\">EMBC 2020<\/a>) in Montreal, Canada this coming July.<\/p>\n<p>Kostantinos, a PhD student supervised by Dr Srivas Chennu, submitted a paper titled &#8216;Generalized Prediction of Unconsciousness during Propofol Anesthesia using 3D Convolutional Neural Networks&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>For his PhD, Yuzhou is supervised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/staff\/cl339\/\">Dr Caroline Li<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/staff\/pr254\/\">Dr Palani Ramaswamy<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/ovc\/people\/profiles\/phillippe_de_wilde.html\">Prof. Philippe De Wilde<\/a>. Their accepted paper is titled &#8216;A normalisation approach improves the performance of inter-subject sEMG-based hand gesture recognition with a ConvNet&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Lam, whose PhD supervisors are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/staff\/pr254\/\">Dr Palani Ramaswamy<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lintech.org\/\">Prof Ian McLoughlin<\/a>, submitted a paper titled &#8216;Robust Deep Learning Framework for Predicting Respiratory Anomalies and Diseases&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Liqun Wu, whose PhD supervisors are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/staff\/cl339\/\">Dr Caroline Li<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sport-sciences\/people\/2189\/marcora-samuele\">Prof. Samuele Marcora<\/a>, submitted a paper titled &#8216;Investigating into segmentation methods for diagnosis of respiratory diseases using adventitious respiratory sounds&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Robin, who recently joined the Data Science group after his PhD supervisor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nottingham.ac.uk\/ComputerScience\/People\/colin.johnson\">Dr Colin Johnson<\/a> moved to Nottingham, submitted the paper &#8216;Pose Estimation from Electromyographical Data using Convolutional Neural Networks&#8217;. Robin&#8217;s PhD is now supervised by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/staff\/cl339\/\">Dr Caroline Li<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cs.kent.ac.uk\/people\/staff\/pr254\/\">Dr Palani Ramaswamy<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p>Given the current situation with COVID-19 around the world, the organizing committee of EMBC 2020 will begin its efforts to implement a July 2020 virtual conference delivery plan, in lieu of a face-2-face meeting in Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Image credits: <a href=\"https:\/\/embc.embs.org\/2020\/\">EMBC conference 2020<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Five papers from Data Science group members have been accepted for oral presentation at EMBC 2020.
