When moving to a new place like campus, it might not occur to you that you need some things until you get there! This checklist should hopefully help you bring up some things you might not have thought of.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

Toaster\/Air Fryer<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0While self-catered kitchens come with a kettle, microwave, and oven, they\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0come with a toaster or air fryer. So, if you love your toast or air-fried chips, it might be worth bringing one! However,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a good idea\u00a0to wait until you\u00a0actually move\u00a0in and\u00a0are able to\u00a0coordinate with your housemates on what to buy. Otherwise, you can end up with four unnecessary toasters!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Formal Clothes<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 You might think\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0no reason to bring formal clothes to\u00a0uni, but you never know. Whether\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0an interview or a social party where the theme is formal wear,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0very likely\u00a0there might be something that requires dressing up.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sewing Kit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 You never know when it might come in handy, but having a needle and thread can help you fix clothes.\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0also used thread to hang up decorations in my room!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Can Opener<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Only one of my housemates has one, and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0always stealing it! If you like eating things in cans like beans,\u00a0tuna\u00a0or sweetcorn,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a must-bring.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Scissors<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 You might think this is obvious, but\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0one of those things\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0always around the house, so you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0always think about it when moving somewhere new.\u00a0They\u00a0always come in useful.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First-Aid Kit<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0worth having the essentials, such as bandages,\u00a0plasters\u00a0and wipes, in case you or someone near you gets sick or injured. Also, the chances that\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0get a cold from the famous Fresher\u2019s Flu during\u00a0uni\u00a0are extremely high. I have some paracetamol,\u00a0Strepsils, and honey and ginger tea in my medicine kit to help fight it!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Ear Plugs<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 If\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0a light sleeper, these could be helpful. Although the University of Kent campus\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0extremely rowdy at night,\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0a new environment\u00a0with new sounds, which can be overwhelming and make it difficult to sleep. They can also be helpful for studying!\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0recommend buying a pair of Loop earplugs. I have the cheapest ones that help dull background noise, and I find them helpful in\u00a0really loud\u00a0cinemas or clubs too.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mattress Topper<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 Adjusting to a new bed can be difficult for some people, and if you like an especially soft bed, a mattress topper could be helpful.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Non-Stick Room Decorations<\/span><\/b>\u00a0\u2013 You\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0allowed to stick things onto the walls on campus, so it can be\u00a0a good idea\u00a0to think of some alternatives. There are some great hooks for pictures or fairy lights that stick to the wall but\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0peel the paint, so it might be worth investing in them.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Top tip!<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

See if you can\u00a0get in contact with\u00a0your housemates. Sometimes you can do this through the University of Kent WhatsApp group that you get added to before you move in. It can be\u00a0a good idea\u00a0to coordinate with your housemates on what to bring, to prevent all of you bringing the same things!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
