Don\u2019t Forget Your Room Inventory!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">You\u2019ve just arrived at uni, unpacked your bags, and maybe even decorated your room with plants and posters. Before you get too comfy, there\u2019s one super important thing to tick off your list: your room inventory.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"519\" data-end=\"770\">Think of it as your <em data-start=\"539\" data-end=\"559\">room\u2019s report card<\/em>. It\u2019s your chance to say, \u201cHey, that scratch on the desk? Not mine.\u201d By completing your room inventory, you\u2019re protecting yourself from being charged at the end of the year for damage that was already there when you moved in.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"772\" data-end=\"795\"><strong>Here\u2019s what to do<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"1175\">\n<li data-start=\"796\" data-end=\"858\">\n<p data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"858\"><strong data-start=\"798\" data-end=\"832\">Download the Home at Halls app<\/strong> (<a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/kent-home-halls\/id6454846751\">Apple<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.hah.kent.app\">Google Play<\/a>)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"859\" data-end=\"939\">\n<p data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"939\"><strong data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"890\">Find the inventory prompt<\/strong> &#8211; it\u2019ll pop up or be right on the home screen<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"940\" data-end=\"1101\">\n<p data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"1101\"><strong data-start=\"942\" data-end=\"961\">Check your room<\/strong> &#8211; walls, furniture, fittings, windows, appliances. Look out for scratches, wobbly chairs, missing bins, or anything that looks a bit off<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1102\" data-end=\"1175\">\n<p data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1175\"><strong data-start=\"1104\" data-end=\"1128\">Submit within 5 days<\/strong> &#8211; that way, everything\u2019s officially recorded.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1177\" data-end=\"1379\"><strong>Spot something that\u2019s more than just cosmetic?<\/strong> Like broken furniture, heating issues, or a faulty appliance? In the past, students have been charged:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1492\" data-end=\"1651\">\n<li data-start=\"1492\" data-end=\"1526\">\n<p data-start=\"1494\" data-end=\"1526\">\u00a3145 to repaint a bedroom wall<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1527\" data-end=\"1556\">\n<p data-start=\"1529\" data-end=\"1556\">\u00a3138 for a computer chair<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1557\" data-end=\"1586\">\n<p data-start=\"1559\" data-end=\"1586\">\u00a3354 for a fridge freezer<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1587\" data-end=\"1629\">\n<p data-start=\"1589\" data-end=\"1629\">Up to \u00a3700 to replace a bedroom carpet<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1630\" data-end=\"1651\">\n<p data-start=\"1632\" data-end=\"1651\">\u00a3675 for a cooker<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1711\">\u2026all because damage wasn\u2019t logged properly at the start.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1653\" data-end=\"1711\"><strong>You will only ever be charged for repair or maintenance work where the damage was caused by you (or your guests).<\/strong> If that happens, you\u2019ll be told the total cost as soon as possible, and the charges will be added to your student account with the University. <strong data-start=\"1889\" data-end=\"1990\">This is exactly why we encourage you to complete your room inventory at the beginning of the year<\/strong> &#8211; so you\u2019re not mistakenly charged for damage caused by a previous resident.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1713\" data-end=\"1872\">It only takes a few minutes to do your inventory, but it could save you hundreds of pounds later.
