In September 2024, we kicked off the year with a bang, welcoming 13 new ResLife Ambassadors and one awesome returning Ambassador. Our mission? To bring you even more epic events, activities, and adventures all year long!
Arrivals Weekend Vibes
Arrivals Weekend was an absolute whirlwind! Our Ambassadors were everywhere—at receptions, outside accommodations—ready to greet new faces and help returning students feel right at home. This year, we raised the bar with social events in Rutherford and Eliot Lounges, Parkwood Hub, and DG-01 in the library. Picture this: hot drinks, endless biscuits, and loads of board and card games. The turnout? Amazing! It was awesome seeing new friendships bloom, especially for students in catered accommodation who don’t have shared kitchens to meet their flatmates.
Social sessions That keep on giving
After such a killer start, we didn’t stop there. We’ve been running social sessions all through Terms 1 and 2, and they’re still packed with friendly faces.
Arts, crafts and epic adventures
If you love getting crafty, you’re in good company. Our Arts and Crafts events are a hit, especially glass and plant pot painting—student favourites! For the adventurers, we’ve had trips to Howletts Wild Animal Park, Ninja Warrior UK in Medway, and Bluewater Shopping Centre. And guess what? Our Leeds Castle trip this term? Totally SOLD OUT!
Insta-famous moments
Big news: we launched our very own Instagram! Stay in the loop with weekly event updates, behind-the-scenes reels, and interactive polls. Our festive Campus Elf Hunt before Christmas was a blast—spot the elf, win a prize. Simple, fun, and festive!
Big events = Big fun
October brought back the legendary ResLife Rodeo, featuring the crowd-fave Rodeo Bull Competition. Plus, a virtual bowling alley and mouth-watering treats like curry, burgers, candy floss, and churros. Yum!
December was all about festive vibes at our Christmas Fair—think gift stalls, DIY card and decoration stations, plus tasty goodies like mince pies, cookies, crepes, and waffles. The prize wheel was a hit, with students winning everything from catering vouchers to squishies and candy canes.
Celebrating diversity, inclusion, and YOU
At ResLife, EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusivity) is always front and centre. We host bi-weekly LGBTQ+ Socials and have held events like Sign Language courses, Diwali Diya pottery decorating, Henna tattooing, Bollywood movie nights, and Lunar New Year crafts. Our spaces were decked out for Black History Month, Diwali, Christmas, Chinese New Year, and LGBTQ+ History Month—because representation matters!
Green goals and sustainability wins
Sustainability? We’re all in. In October, we teamed up with FareShare for a gleaning and Right to Food project. Students harvested surplus apples from a local farm—some went to food banks, and the rest turned into delicious Tarte Tatin at a uni cookery class. Plus, our upcycling events showed that recycling can be fun and creative.
Get active with Kent Sport
Our ResLife Ambassadors are all about boosting student energy, partnering with Kent Sport’s AllActive programme. We’re your friendly faces at key events, encouraging you to try new activities and meet new people.
Garden goals in Keynes
Calling all plant lovers! In February, we’re hosting our first gardening session in the ResLife Garden at Keynes. Plans? A herb garden, a pond, and lots of green magic.
