Clearing Accommodation Application Advice

Applying to Kent through clearing? We have some accommodation application tips just for you.

We know applying for University during Clearing can be a nerve-wracking time, so we’ve made the application process for accommodation as easy as possible.  We are confident we can offer Clearing students a room they can call their own. You may not hear from us straightaway as we send out offers in batches, but don’t worry you will receive an email from us and we are always here to help you with any information you need just contact us.

This year Kent takes the pressure off finding a room in Clearing. When you accept your offer we’ll guarantee you accommodation on one of our campuses or off-campus nearby. We have lots of options available to you.

So, here’s a couple of things to know about applying for Kent accommodation during Clearing:

1 – You just need to pick YES
As you progress through your Clearing application you will be asked if you would like to apply for accommodation in the additional information section, make sure you select YES from the drop down if you do, and then continue on with your application. Yes, it really is that simple as our Clearing team will then pass your details over to our Accommodation Team who will start work on allocating you to a room and sending you an accommodation offer. You’ll need to do this whether you’re applying for a Canterbury or Medway based course.

2 – Email, email, email
We know your inbox is likely overflowing but we’ll be sending you an email with your accommodation offer (and more general application communications) so make sure that your contact email address is a personal one that you will still be able to access after you leave your current place of study (so avoid using that school email account!)

3 – Register your MyAccommodation account
Once you have completed your Clearing application, head over to our MyAccommodation Portal to register for an account. This is where you’ll need to go to accept your accommodation offer once it’s been emailed to you. Once you’ve registered, just check you can access your account, but you don’t need to do anything else at this time. It might be tempting as you’ll see the links to apply for accommodation, but you don’t need to do this as we’ll be receiving your accommodation application direct via your Clearing application. Completing an application within the MyAccommodation Portal will create a duplicate application which could prevent you from viewing and accepting your offer of accommodation.

4 – Have any medical requirements?
We have accessible and adapted rooms across campus, so if you need a specific type of room to meet any of your medical needs then make sure you drop us an email (accomm@kent.ac.uk) to let us know what they are and what you require so that we can get back to you and meet your needs.

5 – Don’t worry if you don’t hear straight away
You’ll receive your accommodation offer once you have been given an unconditional offer to study at Kent. We email out room offers in small batches every day, so don’t worry if you haven’t heard from us within a few days of receiving your study offer. Your accommodation offer will be on the way and you’ll soon be able to log in and accept your room. Don’t forget, check your junk/spam folders as well, because once your accommodation offer has been sent you’ll only have 48 hours to accept it via the MyAccommodation Portal before it will expire.

We contact all students via email either with their room offer or with information about what their next steps are, so you can always expect to receive an email from us. If you don’t, then you can contact us to check in about your application.

6 – Don’t like what you see?
We will always try and match you to your perfect room on campus. However, if you’re not happy with your room offer don’t just reject it. Rejecting your offer doesn’t mean you will automatically be offered a new one, as we’ll think you don’t want a room on campus any more and your application will be deactivated. Instead, get in touch with us before your offer expires. We’ll be on hand via email (accomm@kent.ac.uk) or telephone on +44 (0)1227 766660 to answer any questions and, where possible, arrange room moves and room swaps.

We want to make sure you and all our students living on campus are as comfortable as possible meaning we continue to offer and facilitate room moves all the way up to Arrivals Weekend.

7 – Be informed
The best way to combat any nerves is to keep yourself informed. We have lots of information on our accommodation website about the different accommodation options at both Canterbury and Medway, including virtual tours as well as insights into what it’s like arriving at Kent, moving into your accommodation and advice from previous students. We also regularly post updates, tips and deadlines on Facebook and Twitter (@AccommuniKent) and are happy to answer any questions you have.

Good luck and we look forward to welcoming you to Kent soon!
