UPTAKE is an H2020 Twinning Project (2016-19) which brings together researchers from Kent, Uppsala and Tartu universities. The goal of the consortium is to increase research productivity and excellence through a diverse programme of joint activities, including the launch of new academic conference series, the organisation of workshops and post-graduate training schools, extensive inter-institutional mobility, joint supervision of doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, and coordinated promotion of research outputs, as well as a range of dissemination and communication measures.

The Principal Investigator for UPTAKE @Kent is Professor Elena Korosteleva, Professor of International Politics, Jean Monnet Chair of European Politics, and Director of the Global Europe Centre (Professional Studies) at the School of Politics and IR, University of Kent.

Research Assistant to the project is Eske van Gils, Lecturer at the School of Politics and IR, University of Kent

25-29 June 2016: UPTAKE @ Kent team (Eske van Gils) joins the ASEEES Conference in Lviv, in a joint panel with Ryhor Nizhnikau (University of Tartu), Sophie Bedford (Uppsala University) and Laurent Vinatier (Uppsala University).The panel is named ‘Resisting the irrestistable: Theorizing opposition in post-Soviet authoritarian states’.

 

23-25 June 2016: UPTAKE @Kent team (Elena Korosteleva, Miruna Beldiman, Igor Merheim-Eyre and Eske van Gils) joins the ISA CEEAS Conference in Ljubljana with a panel titled ‘The Politics’ and ‘the Political’ of the Eastern Partnership Initiative: Reshaping the agenda’.

 

15-17 June 2016: UPTAKE @Kent team (Elena Korosteleva, Igor Merheim-Eyre and Eske van Gils) convenes a panel ‘The Politics and the Political of the EaP: Re-shaping the Agenda’ at the BISA 41st Annual Conference in Edinburgh.

 

12-14 June 2016: UPTAKE @Kent team have a strong presence at the 1st TARTU Annual ConferenceEurope under Stress: The End of a Common Dream?’ Kent will be represented by Elena Korosteleva, Igor Merheim-Eyre, Miruna Beldiman, Rabekah Everett, Camille-Renaud Merlen, Zachary Paikin, Susanne Szkola, and Eske van Gils, who will be involved a range of panels.

 

25-27 May 2016: Professor Elena Korosteleva speaks at the top policy LSE Dahrendorf IDEAS Forum in Berlin.

 

20-21 May 2016: UPTAKE @Kent team – Professor Elena Korosteleva, Eske van Gils, Igor Merheim-Eyre – are invited to join the EURINT Jean Monnet Conference ‘The Eastern Partnership under strain – Time for a rethink?’ in Iaşi, Romania. They will deliver papers on SME promotion and economic diplomacy in Moldova; EU security governmentality and visa diplomacy in the Eastern Partnership; and negotiations over the Association Agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan. Professor Elena Korosteleva will contribute to the plenary session ‘The effectiveness of the EaP in light of recent events’.

 

02-13 May 2016: Professor Korosteleva has been commissioned by the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan to assist with the development teaching, research, CPD and outreach provision at the top-ranking University of Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADAU) in Baku. Professor Korosteleva, ADAU executive staff and the European Delegation have developed a Technical Assistance Project to support the establishment and institutionalisation of the Centre of Excellence for European Studies (CEEUS) at ADAU. The overall objective is to develop international partnerships between the CEEUS and its European partners and HEIs.

 

29 April 2016: UPTAKE has its 1st Steering Group meeting to define its strategic priorities and to agree on the common agenda and rules of engagement in Brussels.
