10 Challenges

This year’s screening of the third year Visual Anthropology Video projects was a testament to the hard work, creativity, engagement and inspiration of the 14 students.

The wide spectrum of films kept us intrigued and entertained right to the end. We were especially happy to welcome back Professor Roger Just, who sat on a panel of five judges along with Glenn Bowman, Gabriele Fenton, Reuben Ross and Brian Campbell, representing the breadth of the school. The judges rated the films in terms of technical skill, narrative and anthropological interest. Each category was worth a maximum of 10 marks.  They were also able to give up to 5 extra marks for a criteria of their choosing.

The Roger Just Prize for Visual Anthropology went to Max Harrison for ‘Danny the….’ .The two runners up were Sarah Molisso for ‘The Bubble’ and Joanna Turner & Rose Delamare for ‘Young at Heart’.  The Audience prize went to Christian Hurley and Joshua Delport for ‘We are Anthropologists’, with runners up mention for Becca Toop for ‘ Homeless but not Helpless’ and Thomas Clover for ‘Live Anthropological Role Play’.

All the films can now be seen online along with supporting information and many relevant links. Please do visit the blogs and make comments.
