First Release

The first release of list8D is available. Installation instructions are at http://code.google.com/p/list8d/wiki/UbuntuInstallationStepByStep and there is a VirtualBox VM appliance with everything you need to download here.

What it’s not:

  • Finished
  • Pretty
  • Fast
  • Bug-free
  • Feature Complete.

Notably there are no access controls, non-book metadata handling isn’t great and the item workflow is functional, but not friendly. There is no ‘frontend’ or display API yet – you only get the management interface. While we support nested lists, there is currently no way to create them without fiddling the database, and there’s no management of tags yet, other than creating them.

It does give you an idea of where we’re going though – adding an item for which Amazon (if you’ve configured AWS keys), GoogleBooks and KentVoyager all have copies should give you some idea of how the metadata ‘trickle down’ works.
