Thrilling end to the SoccerZone Cup

On Friday 31 March, 25 5-aside football teams arrived at the Pavilion for the highlight of the sporting calendar: The SoccerZone Cup. Forget Wimbledon or the World Cup Final, the SoccerZone Cup is the place to be!

Five groups battled it out over ten fixtures to secure a place in either the cup competition (Champions League) or plate competition (Europa League).

For the past few years, The Rolling Stoners have dominated the SoccerZone Cup winning multiple titles, however a penalty shoot-out at the quarter final stage of the cup competition saw them bow out to one of our newest teams, Sexy FC.

Sexy FC progressed to the semi-finals but were overcome by the skill of Ain’t No Holebas Girl.

In the plate competition a bye in the semi-finals saw an easy route to the finals for Rockhead Rumble who were eventually joined by another one of our new teams, GG’s.

The plate final came down to a nerve racking penalty shootout after a dramatic 4-1 to 4-4 comeback by Rockhead Rumble. However, the fairy-tale story ended with GG’s winning the penalty shootout and with that were crowned the SoccerZone plate champions.

In the cup competition, after eight gruelling matches and 150 minutes of football, CFC were crowned SoccerZone Cup champions after a victory against Ain’t No Holebas Girl in the final. CFC complete the double, winning both their league and their cup competition.

You can see some of the action from the SoccerZone Cup in our Facebook album.

Kent Sport will be running another SoccerZone Cup competition in the summer term, Friday 2 June, so there is still time to get your hands on some silverware. If you are interested in entering a team email sportsdevelopment@kent.ac.uk for more details.
