On Wednesday 6th November 2013, the University of Kent launched the Kent Law Campaign to the public at a gala evening at 30 St Mary Axe (The Gherkin).

Construction of the new building commended in June 2015 and Kent Law School staff and students moved into our new home in October 2016.

13579845123_f1e83abb4f_zThe Law Clinic’s old facilities were in desperate need of expansion and modernisation so that our students could meet the increasing demand of the local community. It was rapidly approaching the point where its physical structure was no longer facilitating the high expectations and standards required by the students and staff to perform their pro bono work.

In the new building the ground floor provides extended accommodation for the Law Clinic, with new facilities including a lobby and seating area for clients, an expanded shared working space for staff and students, and a greater number of interview rooms and offices; all designed to complement the friendly and professional approach embodied by the Clinic.

A bridged walkway from the main path through campus provides direct first floor access, complementing the feeling of openness generated by the extensive use of glass throughout the construction.  The first floor also provides further office space for Kent Law Clinic, meeting rooms for Kent Law School and houses the new Mooting Chamber – an excellent facility for the Law School’s Mooting Programme.

CI5nz8kWUAAEN-mA sod-turning ceremony on 1st July 2015 was conducted by the Hon. Charles Wigoder, after whom the building will be named, and VC Professor Dame Julia Goodfellow with guests including Elizabeth Wigoder; Her Honour Judge Adèle Williams, Canterbury Combined Court Judge; His Honour Andrew Patience QC; David and Alicia Pentin; Elizabeth Tullberg; and Professor John Fitzpatrick, Director of the Kent Law Clinic.
