Success for KBS Students at PhD Conference SBR2017

sbr2017

PhD students of Kent Business School held the 1st International Doctoral Conference ‘Socialising Business Research: Connecting and Advancing Knowledge’ – (SBR2017).

The conference was organised by Kent Business School (KBS) research students for research students with the aim of connecting PhD candidates from business schools across Europe and beyond.

PhD students across all years of study were exposed to a wide range of business research topics and were able to appreciate different perspectives, methods, and theories. Keynote speakers included Professor Andrew Crane of the University of Bath, Professor Gary Knight of Willamette University and Professor Mark Casson of the University of Reading.

Formal and informal seminars gave the opportunity to network with fellow PhD students, academics, and industry professionals. A series of 11 professional development workshops were run by a range of academics, including ‘Publishing in Top Journals’ by Dr Fragkiskos Filippaios of KBS, and ‘Managing Stress & PhD Challenges’ by Dr Jo Collins, Postgraduate Development Advisor at Kent Graduate School.

Chair of the organising committee and PhD in Management candidate Irina Gokh said: ‘SBR2017 was a high-quality international event where delegates were able to advance their research skills. There were forty scholars from across the world who provided a scientific feedback on submitted papers. Our success was due to the enormous amount of help and support that SBR2017 organising committee received from KBS faculty, including KBS Director Professor Martin Meyer, PhD Director Dr May Seitanidi, and Professor Michael Czinkota. Currently, we are looking for the opportunities to organise SBR2018.’

Director of Graduate Studies (Research) at KBS Dr May Seitanidi said: ‘The Scientific Committee, chaired by Professor Michael Czinkota, provided high-quality feedback to all the abstracts submitted which allowed participants to build on the developmental feedback and improve their papers. A key factor of success is the enthusiasm of the talented KBS PhD students and the dedication of the organising committee that worked day and night for months to organise SBR2017. It is due to the hard work and professionalism of our PhD students and their appreciation of the needs of the fellow students that this conference was a success and enjoyed so much by the participants.’

Congratulations to the organising committee from all at Kent Business School.
