Please Remain Alert: Attempted Procurement Fraud

We have been made aware of  fraudsters impersonating University of Kent email addresses and staff identities to try and defraud the University. These will come in two main forms :

  1. Emails from known members of staff with unusual requests. The email addresses will not be from @kent.ac.uk but addresses like @kent-ac-uk.com and be for irregular transfers of monies or similar. Do not respond to these.
  2. Emails from purchasing2@kent-ac-uk.com (or similar) pretending to be our Procurement Team, trying to place orders for goods or services to be delivered to addresses we don’t use for goods and items we won’t need. If you are made aware of these report them immediately to purchasing@kent.ac.uk
  3. You may receive invoices for items you have not ordered. Please report these immediately to purchasing@kent.ac.uk and keep any and all documentation.

If you receive any enquiries from suppliers around requests that sound unusual, strange, or simply not quite right, let the Finance team know immediately and we will action appropriately. We can take action up to, including police involvement, to prevent the University being victim of this criminal activity
