Poet pens Pride of Britain poem read by actors and sports stars

Sir Michael Caine, Joanna Lumley and Sir Chris Hoy are just some of high-profile stars who read out a piece of poetry written by Patricia Debney from the School of English at the annual awards event.

Patricia was commissioned to write the introductory poem for the show for the third year in a row. Patricia said it was fantastic to be asked to take part in the awards again and showcase the power poetry can have to help celebrate the achievements of unsung heroes from across the UK.

The Pride of Britain Awards has been running since 1999 and the 2017 Awards will be broadcast on Tuesday 7 November starting at 20.00 on ITV.

You can watch the poem being read out by the celebrities listed above via this link to the ITV Hub. The poem starts at the 3m 20 second mark.

Patricia is a Reader in Creative Writing, has published four books of poetry, a novel and short stories and has taught creative writing for over 25 years.
