During the 2019 summer break, School of Anthropology and Conservation student, Natasha Jacob undertook an internship with Kent County Council as her EP reward. The EP team recently caught-up with Natasha to find out more.
Natasha commented that she applied for this internship as it ‘ticked all the boxes of being involved in an established (government) institution, spending my internship doing work that is relevant to my degree (working in the Sustainable Business and Communities’ team on climate change related projects) and being paid for the work I was doing.”
Natasha was tasked with working in the Adaption Team, which focuses on the adaptation to Climate Change in Kent and countries in the 2seas area (France, Netherlands and Belgium). Natasha undertook various project tasks, including first drafts of project tenders, baselines and reports. She also engaged with consultants responsible for creating outputs for the EU funded adaption projects. “It was a very varied internship and gave me a taste of the type of work I could be involved with after University”, Natasha commented.
The work also ranged from data based quantitative tasks to creating infographics and qualitative research. Natasha also gained an insight into government activities on a regional scale.
Due to the great work Natasha has done, she has been offered a part-time role as an Environmental Projects Assistant, working for Kent County Council until December 2019.
