Employability Festival: A Reflection

Matt Cook, EP Officer

Over the last 4-weeks, students at the Canterbury and Medway campuses have been given the opportunity to attend hundreds of events as a part of the University of Kent’s Employability Festival. Reflecting upon this, here are some of the top highlights!

Employability Festival started with a bang in Medway on 10th October, with Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Teach First running skills based workshops, with the Chartered Insurance Institute and Civil Service Fast Stream offering sessions the following days.

The highlight was the Employability Fair, 12th October 2016, which involved organisations such as Arriva, Apple, IBM, SEO London, FDM Group, Kent Police, to name a few! Around 600 students attended the fair, impressing upon potential recruiters!

Canterbury EmpFest started on 24th October and during the first week, sessions were delivered by the Discovery Network International, PwC, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Cisco, to name a few! Furthermore, there was the Science ‘Get Your Geek On’ Fair, Work and Study Abroad Fair and the JobShop Part-Time Recruitment Fair.

The pinnacle of EmpFest was the annual Careers Fair, held on 1st November 2016. This saw over 100 top graduate recruiters exhibit, with thousands of students gaining the chance to meet them and find out more about graduate opportunities!

Overall, EmpFest provided University of Kent students with unique and exclusive opportunities to enhance their employability, learn about potential careers, develop essential skills, and of course, earn more Employability Points!

But what next? There will still be events available to attend throughout Terms One and Two and for more on these, please see here. Also, don’t forget, many of the employers involved will be offering exclusive EP rewards and you can see the full list here.
