Research Seminar: Bacterial Enzymes for Lignin Degradation: Production of Aromatic Chemicals from Lignocellulose

Professor Tim Bugg, Department of Chemistry, University of Warwick

Tuesday 5th April, 1.00 p.m., Cornwallis Octagon Lecture Theatre 2 (COLT2)

Lignin is an aromatic polymer found in plant cell walls, that is a potential source of renewable chemicals, if methods to valorise lignin can be discovered. The seminar will discuss the identification of two classes of bacterial enzyme responsible for oxidation of lignin, and the use of pathway engineering in Rhodococcus jostii for conversion of lignocellulose into target chemicals for industrial biotechnology applications.
